APIs: The Gateway to CMMS Transformation
API stands for Application Programming Interface, which is a software intermediary that allows two unrelated applications to talk to each other. It is like a bridge that takes a request, a message or data from one programme and delivers it to another. Sometimes APIs use additional software that translates the messages or data so that the format used by one system can be understood by the other system – this is called middleware.
APIs are present in almost every aspect of our digital lives as the hidden messengers in our world of plug-ins, digital interfacing and software communication. Without you knowing, they connect everything together and harmonise the way software systems work. Think about all the different technologies you use during an average day at work. Individually, each technology is great – but they become even more useful when they work together and make your data accessible from one place.
Using this API capability, ShireSystem’s maintenance and facilities management services can be connected with operational technologies to make maintenance management data and controls available across your entire company systems. For example, it can be used to pull or push data from ShireSystem to other systems that you might have such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics or even analytics software such as Power BI.
In this session we will cover:
- What is an API?
- Why would I need it?
- How would I use it?
- What do I need to do to benefit?
