McCarthy & Stone adopts BIM technology in retirement home design and build

IconSystem®
Retirement home outside

McCarthy & Stone is an award winning builder of outstanding retirement properties in the UK. They attribute their success not only to the design and quality of their range of retirement homes but also to their policy of applying the latest technologies and software in the build process. They have been awarded the 5-star rating for customer satisfaction in an independent survey by the Home Builders Federation every year since the awards began, and are the only house builder to do so.

The challenge
BIM has become a crucial turning point in the modernisation of the building and construction industry. However, ‘Modernise or die: The Farmer Review of the UK Construction Labour Model’ 2016, found that there is a significant reality gap when it comes to the industry’s adoption strategy of BIM. McCarthy & Stone needed a system that kept them up-to-date and beyond with the latest BIM technologies to keep them at the forefront of the industry.

Our solution
Together, Elecosoft and McCarthy & Stone facilitated the installation of IconSystem to enable them to keep up with the demand for consistent and accurate data.

The IconSystem is fully integrated and introduced methodologies to the company to bring together a mass of BIM-based construction data into one, intuitive software. The software enables the company to plan, implement and deliver a fully-integrated BIM based build program, which ensures that McCarthy & Stone benefits from the comprehensive application of BIM technologies in any project.

IconSystem is referred internally as ‘Datum’, and was tailored specifically for their business with the additions of the Specs & Standards and Projects & Properties modules.
